Hello. I would like to get involved in your ministry trying to reach the lost. I have been a born again Christian for 8 years and have done some evangelism on my own and with other Street preachers.
I talked with Christian today in Williamsburg.
Hello Brother Don,
It was an honor to stand with you and your friends as you preached today. The ridicules of the students very much resemble the scorns that our Lord Jesus Christ faced on His way to the cross. Be encouraged and know that He will reward you richly in Heaven.
Matthew 5:11-12 “Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.”
Romans 8:18 “For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”
Philippians 1:29 “For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;”
Please also know that I am encouraged by your preaching. In a campus where sin is praised, it comforts me to hear someone actively taking a stand for what God stands for – calling good as good, and bad as bad, as it should be.
Praise the Lord for your willingness endure for His sake. I pray that you will continue to stand strong in His power.
You just came to UMass Amherst and I wasn’t able to has a question answered – if there were an atheist open to empirical evidence and objectivity, how would you convince him or her of the existence of God? This isn’t a trick question or anything, but in such schools, you alienate people with a harsh (is that the right word? I don’t think so) tone and message delivery. In a rational conversation, how do you prove, or at least provide evidence of, God?
Thanks for commenting. UMass Amherst has always been a favorite college for sharing the Gospel. In the past, the students were more polite and respectful than those at Lowell, Boston, or Dartmouth. This year was quite different at your campus, and sadly my friend Ryan, a pastor from N.M. visited for the first time. He left thinking the students exceedingly disrespectful, even more than the students in Boston and Lowell. It is true and we understand the most visible and vocal attendees are not always representative of the entire school. And we share the Gospel on secular campus knowing that many there are not Christian, and therefore we are not disappointed or shocked at the response; We simply pray more fervently that God would do what only God can do, change hearts and minds and lives. To answer your question, I would start with a foundation by which all men and women employ to make sense of the world in which they live ( their world-view ). As a Christian I employ my senses and use my reason to interpret what my senses transmit to my brain. And I can know or trust in this process, because God created men and women unlike all other creatures on earth. I have been created upright, rational and capable of knowing. I may not know everything, but I can know for certain some things; using my senses, and the laws and order which govern the world in which I live.( physics, math, history, logic, morality). In fact by employing the rational mind provided to men by God, I can know “that I don’t know everything”. When someone professes to be atheist, or without God, they are not open-minded. They are pre-supposing that there is no God, and to have a consistent worldview, they must not only presuppose their senses are valid, but also presuppose they can make an ordered logical interpretation of what they sensed. Those that start with this premise and these presuppositions can not logically account for what they sense or how they interpret. ” they can because they can”, And, if we would allow that “they” could sense and interpret the world in which they live, it would be subjective, because they can not sense for another or interpret for another. However in the world in which we live there is truth and there are facts that apply to all that dwell in this world. There are not 7 billion independent fact factories on earth. There are truths, logic, and reality that confront each of us on a daily basis. If pressed, some that claim to be without God might posit a source of stardust or alien intelligence to at least make a logical rationale for what they know,. We don’t prove the existence of God or employ our reason to substantiate God, the truth, the fact is we can not account for reason in a godless empirical universe. We know, we reason, we interpret our sensory perception, because unlike all other creatures on earth, we have been created rational. Being made in the image of God, as revealed by God in the Bible, there is within all men and women some knowing of the truth of a creator. We can not know His nature or His attributes apart from what He has revealed in the Bible, and what He has preserved as His Word throughout history, but, each of us has some knowledge of a perfect powerful God. This is made abundantly clear in the Bible, Romans chapter 1. However, because of the fallen nature of men, we suppress the truth we know. We would prefer to think or say we have evolved by random chance with no purpose, hence we are pleased to have so highly evolved and accomplished so much. So contrary to what God has revealed in that we were made in the likeness of a perfect God with a purpose; to live in such a way that this God receives glory, and that we enjoy His presence, and since He knows all things He knows that which is best for us eternally, rather than that which pleases for a moment. Truly when our creation and purpose is considered we must admit, we have all sinned and fallen short. When we speak of someone who suppresses the truth, we usually think about one who has had an experience in the past they blot out for their sanity. i.e. Someone who had been abused as a child may not even remember the abuse. Hence, sometimes Dr.s will employ word-association tests, hypnosis, or 2nd person conversations in hopes that the truth might be made known. The atheist or those that claim without God, have a knowledge but they suppress the truth about what they know. And this suppression of the truth is not done in innocence but in unrighteousness, or the Bible would say something like; willful, sinful elevation of me, rather than glorify or be thankful to God. So we might enter as you say a “rational conversation” with someone who converses as though he could understand and make himself understood, but has no logical reason by which he can account for “understanding– for which of his senses is the understanding sense? The command of God upon all men of understanding is not to start believing in God, but to repent of suppressing the truth about your creator, to turn from suppressing the truth to acknowledging the truth about God. To understand that you have suppressed the truth about the God in whom you live and breathe and exist is sin without excuse, and what you can not know about God naturally is that God is patient, kind, and forgiving, and He became flesh, dwelling among His creation for a time to make a way that sinful men and women can be forgiven of all their sins, and to reconcile them unto Himself by the blood of Jesus. So as Christians we go into a world where we may not be wanted, but into a world where men need forgiveness and we tell them about Jesus. For how will they call upon the name of the Lord unless they believe, and how will they believe unless they hear, and how will they hear unless someone goes to preach. For faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. The love of God was manifested in this, not that we loved God, but that He loved us first, and sent His Son to live a perfect life of obedience, even to die on a cross, for the sin he never committed, and to be resurrected from the dead, so that those who repent and believe the Gospel shall be saved. I know that was a long answer, but you said it wasn’t a trick question, so I thought you wanted a sincere response. There are several other ways to communicate with one who professes to be without God. The first would be to simply make clear that The God who created him in such a way that he is capable of knowing any thing declares in Romans 1 that He does know, and is therefore without excuse. A second way would be to direct him to one of my friend’ websites :

To attempt to prove to your friend that God exists is to put your friend in a place of judgment over God, and consider that he would use his finite fallible reason in judging your proofs and evidences, And consider that even if you could with extraordinary oratory and clever arguments persuade your friend, that his professor or friend could convince him that you had made a FOOL of him. Only God through the Holy Spirit can convict of sin, unrighteousness, and judgment
Of sin, because of unbelief,
of unrighteousness because the salvation Jesus provides was accomplished once for all, and He is now returned to the right hand of God, and there is no other way by which God justifies men.
and of judgment because the god of this world has been defeated, The father of lies has been overcome.
Thanks again for writing. I hope you checked out some other stuff on this site. I hope you will not just read your Bible but believe it
, and check out some of the websites I mentioned. And let me know what you think of the other sites.
