      Thanks for commenting. Rather than a quick shallow answer, like you may prefer, I would like to say, that some things , like truth, are not a yes/no response. The website you mentioned and my response are based on truth that is revealed by the Christian God, who in essence, is all-knowing, therefore the source of truth. Before making an angry response, please consider what, if anything you ” know ” is true. If you can acknowledge any thing as true, then you must acknowledge it is true for all mankind. But, by whatever means you use- to establish truth, will you say ” it is true because I established it – or was it a truth you discovered- although it was there long before you were. So a “fact” is true, and a fact is true everywhere to every man. When you ask for proof, you are acknowledging the existence of truth. The conclusion is that God has revealed truth to those He created as rational beings, to those He created with sense and reasoning. People who have never read the Bible still ” know ” things are true, they know facts, but they can not account for truth or facts beyond what they may feel internally or what they perceived with their senses, i.e. you could not know if anyone else was sensing what you are. You ” know ” things: math facts, logic facts, scientific facts, and moral truths. You wouldn’t say you are the reason these things are true, yet you are confronted with these truths every day. But now you would ask for proof that the Bible is true. And if given evidence, You would determine if the evidence was true? You can not reason – there is or is not a God, because you can not reason without God.
      But to try a different tact, the Bible would say the issue is not insufficient evidence, but instead is a moral issue { looking at the evidence in the wrong way- with you as the investigator, interpreter and judge. }
      Ex) if we were both assigned a task to measure the perimeter of the library there at Lowell. We will independently measure the perimeter then verify we agree on the measurement.
      I am given a yard stick ( 3 feet ), and I quickly finish after laying the stick down 1000 times, I conclude the perimeter is 1000 sticks ( 3000 ft ).
      You start to do the same but fail to notice your stick is defective in that it is only 2 feet long. You lay your measuring stick down 1500 times, and conclude the perimeter is 4500 ft.
      because you are laboring under the supposition that since your measuring device is called a “yardstick” it must be 3 ft long.
      We repeat the tests over and over, never getting the same result, until you ask me to prove that I am right and you are wrong. and as long as you cling to the thought that since your measuring device is labeled “yardstick”, it must be 3 ft, you will; reject all other proofs. The issue is a “defective” stick. Once you see that, then I wont really have to prove to you anything. You are a bright, rational young man, with sense and reasoning. Once you have the correct measuring device, you will come to the correct conclusion without persuasion.
      The Bible says that through one man, the first Adam, sin came into the world, and that sin has separated God and man. And now without divine intervention by God, man can not Know God, please God, or love God, or even discern the things that are spiritual. Sadly because of this condition, many want to be separated from God, they internally suppress the truth about God, they detest the very thought of God, even when they say God doesn’t exist. But God created man above the other beasts, placed man in a garden paradise, and knowing they would fail He sent His Son to die on a cross to save his people from their sin, to restore their relationship to God, to divinely intervene in a way that would allow them to have spiritual life. The entire Bible speaks of what God has done to make a people for Himself. Jesus lived without sin, died for the sins of His people, and then was resurrected, the firstborn raised from the dead so that now his people can be raised in Him,. Sins forgiven, shame and guilt over past deeds blotted out, a new nature with desires that are pleasing to God, and the saving Knowledge that you are eternally at peace with God. There is no condemnation for those that are in Christ Jesus. This new nature indwelt by the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead, a Holy Spirit which will war against sin, and thanks be to God who gives us the victory.
      If you claimed to be the fastest man on the planet, you could only prove this with your speed, no amount of boasting or clever arguments would convince your classmates. The Bible is self-asserting, claiming to be true as revealed by God and by the authority of God. Your authority is limited to self and because of sinful nature you are confronted daily by what you “know” is wrong and you express this daily when you accuse others of mistakes: math, logic, moral. you are also confronted daily with what you “know” you have done wrong, and you express this by making excuses whenever you know you can’t conceal or hide what you have done.
      I really like you, and I thank you for being a man and serving in the military. I served in the Navy 6 years. I found forgiveness for all my sins and peace with God 12 years ago. I urge you young man, take your sins to Jesus. Beg God and plead that His blood, His death was for ALL the sins you are guilty of, even those nobody else knows because you keep them buried. Read a Bible and find out about God. Salvation is through repentance toward God and coming to saving faith in Jesus Christ. Don’t waste your life clinging to the sins past or the sins you cling to now. Whoever calls on the name of the Lord will not be put to shame. If you seek the Lord you will find Him; when you seek Him with all of your heart.

    Jesus preached of tolerance and love…not biggotry,hate, or helfire. Conservative christians are some of the most hatefilled individuals ive ever met. Loke gahndi said…”i like your christ, but do not like your christians… they are so unlike your christ”. Why dont you try feeding the poor…. give shelter to a homeless prostitute…. do some good… rather than judge peope through the invocation of jesus’ name.I like jesus… he was a dark skinned jewish middle eastern socialist who hung out with prostitutes, bums, and probably drug addicts…. and never said a bad word about anyone.

      Thanks for commenting. And thanks for staying and listening that day. I hope you will also let me respond here. All of the comments you have written make me wonder if you have actually read the Bible or are just quoting someone else and what their opinion was. In the first chapter of the NT, Matthew, the Bible says His name would be Jesus because he would ” save ” His people from ” sin”. In the first chapter of the Gospel of Mark, He preaches – Repent for the kingdom of God is at hand.
      In the 24th chapter of Luke verse 47 ( which is the name of this website ) Jesus commands His followers to preach repentance and remission of sins to all nations.
      In the Gospel of John, Jesus tell His brothers that, The world hated him- because He ” testified ” it’s deeds were evil.
      In the 4 Gospels, Jesus speaks of ” hell ” 11 times. Hopefully with just these references you would admit you have not accurately read the first 4 books of the NT. Most of the remainder of the NT is the letters written to believers in the different churches, who have been saved by God, granted repentance, eternal life, and peace with God, their sins forgiven. I urge you young man to read the Bible yourself, thoughtfully, and pray that God would do for you, what He did for the men in those churches in the NT, what He did for me, and what He offers to those who repent and believe in the name of Jesus. However, the Bible says that those God saves become ” new creations” and old things pass away. So if you insist on clinging to an identity of a US vet, you may reject the invitation to be reconciled to God by the blood of Jesus, even though it would put away sin. I have seen this in the past when my church has gone to the VA hospital to minister to the vets. When asked what they had done or what their life was, they could only talk about their years in the military even if it was 40 years ago, as if they had no life afterwards. So sad, to see years of life spent, never moving forward. Think of a train, which moves forward as long as it is positioned on the rails of the track. If it is off the rails, it no longer can move. Sometime a person gets in such a state. Their life can no longer go forward. I urge you, before it is too late, repent and believe the Gospel of Jesus. It is the power of God unto salvation. Take your sin to Jesus, believe that He died for your sins and God punished Him for your sins. Believe that Gods wrath was satisfied when it fell on Him in your place, God raised Him from the dead, and so now you can have peace with God by trusting in what Jesus did.

    Did anyone ever notice all of these religous nuts somehow always end up being some deep southern dude. I feel like that just explains most of it to be honest. Go get yourself a nice education and stop interrupting mine. Thanks, I’d appreciate it. While you’re at it, teach your people to be more accepting of others.

      Thanks,for commenting. I did edit your name because of your profanity. You mention in your comment how you feel, and it would appear you are emotion (feelings)- driven. Your comment sounds very angry and intolerant. You don’t seem to be accepting of Christian preachers or people from the South, yet you would have me to be accepting of you, and of the behavior on campus there. Young man, in a public campus, you will hear many, many opposing comments and worldviews, and when you leave school and live full time in public even more. I truly hope you can become more tolerant. Our purpose at UConn is to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ which we have every right to do – just as you have a right to disagree. We preach about Jesus knowing that only through His sinless life, death on a cross, and resurrection can a person be forgiven by God and spiritually changed in a way that he would no longer be enslaved by his anger, lust, or greed. Sadly so many don’t see this in themselves, even though they see it in others. I would say I come there because of my love of the students there, and to make known there the love of God. But many confuse this kind of love with the emotional type of love. Many, maybe you, so love your self and your sin so much you would die for it,or kill to keep it, or exhaust yourself trying to hide it. We don’t tell people to stop sinning and go to church. We point people to Jesus, declaring that He has accomplished what God demands, and through Him we can have victory over sin, and live without guilt and shame, not having to live a life trying to keep our sin secret. We may disagree but I love all the students there. I am glad you commented. I hope you resd the response, and I hope others read it.
